What Changes When You Rename a Production Group
A production group name has two separate carriers in the schedule. One copy is the row in the preset list that determines which groups appear in the grouped view (the interface labels that row By Unit), while each shooting day also carries its own group name for the badge shown on that day; once those two places are separated, rename and delete can be checked as different actions instead of being treated as the same operation.
Renaming a group carries into existing shooting days because the preset name and the name stored on each affected shooting day are rewritten together during that rename.
Rename updates both places
When a group is renamed, the row in the preset list changes to the new name and shooting days that still carry the old name are rewritten one by one to the new name. Both parts occur in the same background transaction, so the visible verification also has two parts: return to the grouped view and check the number of shooting days under that group, then open any one of those days and inspect the badge; both places should show the new name.
If the interface is currently showing the old group view when the rename occurs, it returns to the “All” view afterward. This only moves the current view back to an available level after the rename and does not mean that “All” is itself a production-group name; it is the view level that shows the project’s shooting days together.
Deleting a group is different from renaming it
Deleting a group removes the row from the preset list but does not go through the existing shooting days and take back the old name stored on them. After deletion, that group no longer appears in the grouped list and its count disappears, while shooting days that previously belonged to it can still be found in the “All” view and their day badges can still display the old group name.
The delete confirmation reads “Deleting this unit will permanently remove all associated settings. This action cannot be undone.” — note that the interface’s own word for a group is unit. “Settings” should be read against the result visible in the interface, not expanded into an added claim that shooting days are deleted too. The receiver should compare the grouped list with the “All” view to distinguish a removed preset row from an actual change to the shooting-day records.
After deleting a group, the receiver should verify both the grouped list and the “All” view: the group disappears from the first, while shooting days with the old badge can remain visible in the second.
“All” is a view level, not a group value
“All” shows the shooting days in the project and is not an ordinary production-group name. The group-selection row appears when a new shooting day is created from the “All” level; when creation starts from a specific group view, that row is not shown, so the group cannot be changed from that form at that moment.
This is also why the “All” view is the place to look for old shooting days after a preset group is deleted. The preset row controls whether the group name appears in grouped navigation, while the name carried by a shooting day controls what its badge says; when deletion changes only the first place, the second can still leave a visible trace.
This reference-update rule applies to group names
Do not extend the group rename behavior to other identifiers. Before sending a handoff after a rename, repeat the two-part check: confirm the number of shooting days under the renamed group, then open one day and verify its badge shows the new name.
